Elisabeth Leonskaja
Elisabeth Leonskaja ( Russian Елизавета Ильинична Леонская ; born November 23, 1945 in Tbilisi , Soviet Union ) is a Russian pianist .
Life
Elisabeth Leonskaja was born in Tbilisi as the daughter of Russian parents - her mother was Jewish - and was considered a child prodigy at an early age , giving her first piano concerts in the Georgian capital at the age of eleven . In 1964 she began studying at the Moscow Conservatory with Jacob Milstein , supported by the renowned pianist Swjatoslaw Richter . During this time she won prizes at international competitions in Bucharest , Brussels and Paris .
She left the Soviet Union in 1978 and has lived in Vienna ever since . Numerous CD recordings and appearances all over the world, such as at the Salzburg Festival , and the collaboration with the important conductors of their time and almost all first-class orchestras, including Svyatoslaw Richter, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Guarneri String Quartet , bear witness to her international recognition. She is an honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthaus.
