Elisabeth of Brandenburg-Küstrin
Elisabeth von Brandenburg-Küstrin (born August 29, 1540 in Küstrin , † March 8, 1578 near Warsaw ) was a princess of Brandenburg-Küstrin and by marriage Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Kulmbach .
Life
Elisabeth was the older of the two daughters of Margrave Johann von Brandenburg-Küstrin (1513–1571) from his marriage to Katharina (1518–1574), daughter of Duke Heinrich II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .
Elisabeth married Margrave Georg Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (1539–1603) on December 26, 1558 in Küstrin . Elisabeth's husband had been governor in the Duchy of Prussia for Duke Albrecht Friedrich since 1577 .
Elisabeth died during her stay at the Warsaw court, where Georg Friedrich was to be awarded the ducal dignity by the Polish King Stephan Báthory . Elisabeth was buried in the Königsberg Cathedral . Her husband commissioned the Dutch sculptor Willem van den Blocke to design the grave monument, which was completed in 1582 and erected as the “governor's monument” in Königsberg Cathedral.
