Eliseo Moreno

Eliseo Hernandez Moreno (born September 27, 1959 in Hidalgo County , Texas , † March 4, 1987 in Huntsville , Walker County , Texas) was an American gunman who shot six people. He was executed in 1987 for the murder of a police officer.

Events

Moreno shot six people on October 11, 1983 after having marital problems and searching for his wife. First he killed his brother-in-law and his wife in College Station before killing a police officer north of Hempstead . In Hempstead itself, he shot three elderly people and took a family hostage who allowed himself to be taken to Pasadena . He was driving toward the Rio Grande Valley with another hostage when he was arrested at a roadblock in Wharton County .

Moreno was sentenced to death in 1984 for the murder of Texas Highway Patrol trooper Russell Boyd . In October 1985 he was sentenced to 45 years imprisonment for the murders of Juan Garza and Esther Garza, and an additional 35 years imprisonment for the murders of James Bennatte, Allie Wilkins and Ann Benatt. He pleaded guilty to all crimes and refused to petition for clemency. After only three years in the death row Moreno was in the 1987 Huntsville Unit with the lethal injection executed.
