Elizabeth Rose Berridge, Baroness Berridge (born March 22, 1972 in Rutland , England ) is a British lawyer , politician ( Conservative Party ) and life peeress .

life and career

Berridge was born and attended school in County Rutland . She attended Vale of Catmose College and Rutland College in Oakham . At Emmanuel College of Cambridge University , she studied Law ( Law ) and was at the Inns of Court School of Law in London for Barrister trained. She served as a barrister (admitted in 1996) before being appointed Executive Director of the Conservative Christian Fellowship in 2005, which she remained until 2011.

In the 2005 general election , Berridge stood in the Stockport constituency for the Conservative Party .

She is a member of the trustee and director of the Kainos Community , a charity that operates rehabilitation facilities in three prisons. Berridge is owned by the Advisory Council ( Advisory Council ) of the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East , which the work of Reverend Canon Andrew White , the "Vicar of Baghdad" ( Vicar of Baghdad supported). She is also a director and member of the trustee of the charity More than Gold .

Berridge lived temporarily in Ghana and in Trinidad and Tobago .

Membership in the House of Lords

Berridge was named a Life Peeress as Baroness Berridge, of the Vale of Catmose in the County of Rutland on January 18, 2011 . It was officially introduced to the House of Lords on January 20, 2011 with the assistance of Ian McColl, Baron McColl of Dulwich and Patricia Morris, Baroness Morris of Bolton .

She is the youngest woman currently (as of June 2012) a member of the House of Lords. She receives financial support from a number of friends and family to help meet her expenses related to her duties in the House of Lords.

She mentions multiculturalism , young people and low-income earners as topics of political interest on the House of Lords website . It lists Ghana , Iraq , Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago as states of interest .

In October 2011 she put a parliamentary question on current developments in Egypt . In March 2012, following a parliamentary inquiry, Berridge was critical of the opportunities for Christians in the UK to practice their faith.

Berridge is regularly present on meeting days.

Working in public

From September 16-20, 2011, she visited Israel and the Palestinian Territories , with Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor and representatives of the UN , the FCO and the Middle East Quartet Office . She then visited Egypt from September 25 to October 2, 2011 , where she met with leaders of Christians and Muslims, as well as representatives of the FCO and the EU .

In a blog in November 2011, she criticized the plans of party activist Tim Montgomerie to set up a separate external relations unit to maintain relationships with key interest groups and communities. In November 2011, as a token of her solidarity with her college and home, Berridge attended the Catmose College ceremony to showcase last year's students.

Berridge attended an event called An Evening With Baroness Berridge in February 2012 , where she spoke on the subject of social justice.

As part of the Peers in Schools project , she visited the Melton Vale Post 16 Center in March 2012 .
