The Ellery Sike is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with geological significance. The watercourse exposed rocks from the early Carboniferous . It is a type of rock known as Ellery Sike Limestone. The fossils indicate a high salinity of the water, as it occurs behind a barrier at the edge of a body of water.
