Elling - Not without my mother is a Norwegian feature film with Per Christian Ellefsen and Grete Nordrå in the leading roles. The film is based on the novel Ententanz from the Elling series of novels by the writer Ingvar Ambjørnsen . It was shot in 2003 by Eva Isaksen due to the great success of the previous film Elling .
action
Almost forty-year-old Elling lives with his mother in Oslo. Elling is mentally unstable, he only leaves the apartment when his mother is with him, behaves very compulsively and sometimes lives in a fantasy world in which he reconstructs the events around him. After the mother's visit to the doctor, she decides that she and Elling should go on a trip to Mallorca, where Elling's grandparents used to go on vacation. At first Elling is anything but thrilled that he should leave the “safe” Oslo apartment, and only after some nagging does he finally agree to the trip.
The way there is already a great challenge for him, and due to all his uncertainty, there are several disputes with his mother, fellow travelers and hotel employees. When he finally arrived at the hotel room, Elling was horrified to find that instead of the booked double room with two single beds, there was a large double bed. Since this problem cannot be solved until the next day, Elling spends the night on the balcony, as he does not want to sleep in a bed with his mother under any circumstances. There he is discovered by the constantly drunk Georg and his wife Mag. Georg makes fun of his mother's boy, but Mag likes the insecure Elling, who takes care of his old mother. The completely inexperienced Elling struggled with his sexuality during the entire vacation, so he took refuge in the sea on the beach because of an erection, and he would love to hang out with Mag, but her husband Georg always comes in between.
Elling is extremely jealous of his mother's vacation acquaintance, an old colonel. He constantly tries to interfere and repeatedly makes scenes in public. Only after Colonel Bugge-Høvik Elling has spoken to his conscience does he allow the colonel to be with him and even drive to Valldemossa with his mother , which she wished very much. The evening is a complete success for Elling's mother, she enjoys the day and dances with the colonel to Spanish music in the evening. When Elling is sitting in the back yard to take care of the stray cat he named Erna, his mother dies. She collapsed completely unexpectedly, but was very happy, as Bugge-Høvik assures him.
Elling flies back to Norway alone. This is where the first film Elling starts , in which Elling is found in the closet after the death of his mother and ends up in psychiatry.
Remarks
In the meantime, Petter Næss, who was also the director of the first produced film Elling , shot a third part: Elling - Lieb mich Morgen (original title: Elling - Elsk meg i morgen). This is the continuation of Elling. So far this film is only available in Norwegian.
