Elliott is a place with 355 inhabitants in the Barkly Region in the Australian state of Northern Territory . It is the largest place in the Kuwarrangu Ward. The village is on the Stuart Highway , about 250 km north of Tennant Creek and marks about half of the 1500 km route between Darwin and Alice Springs . Elliott was named after Lieutenant Snow Elliott, who ran a camp for passing Commonwealth troops on this site during the Second World War.
The area where Elliott lies is home to the Jindili tribe . The place is called Kulumindini by them .
Temperatures reach their maximum in November and December with mean highs of 39.1 ° C and 38.7 ° C and mean minima of 23.4 ° C and 24.4 ° C, respectively. In July, the coldest month, mean maxima of 28.4 ° C and mean minima of 11.2 ° C are reached. The annual rainfall averaged 609 mm from 1949 to 2010.
Infrastructure
In addition to an infirmary, police station, school, gas station, hotel and campsite, Elliott even offers a 9-hole golf course. About 3 km northwest of the village there is an airfield, which u. a. used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service .
