Elmar Grabherr (1985)

Elmar Grabherr (born October 10, 1911 in Bludenz ; † June 10, 1987 in Bregenz ) was an Austrian lawyer and administrative officer.

Live and act

Elmar Grabherr was the son of a principal school principal. Attending high school in Feldkirch followed from 1930 the study of law and political science at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna , which he in 1936 with the promotion of Dr. iur. completed. Then he entered the service of the Vorarlberg state government. After Vorarlberg became part of the Reichsgau Tirol-Vorarlberg , Grabherr was transferred to the authority of the Reich governor, where he was in charge of personnel administration for the “Alpine Foreland Operations Zone” from 1943 to 1945 in Bolzano . Shortly before the end of the war, Grabherr returned to Vorarlberg in order to assume a leading position in the state administration, most recently from 1965 to 1976 as state office director . Grabherr's extra-professional interest was in the history of Vorarlberg. He promoted the (problematic and partly outdated) “History of Vorarlberg” by Benedikt Bilgeri and wrote a popular “Vorarlberg history” himself. The Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings made him an honorary member in 1968.

After Grabherr's death, a partly polemical account story arose about his involvement in National Socialism - he had joined the NSDAP as an official of the Reichsgau Tirol-Vorarlberg and moved in the vicinity of Gauleiter Franz Hofer - and the repercussions of National Socialist convictions in his later thoughts and actions .

Since 1930 he was a member of the Catholic student union KaV Norica Vienna .
