Elmer Noble "Red" Sleight (born July 8, 1907 in Morris , Illinois , USA ; † August 9, 1978 in Naples , Florida ) was an American football player . He played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Green Bay Packers .

Player career

Sleight studied from 1927 to 1929 at Purdue University , where he played American football. In 1929 he was voted All American for his performance as a football player . Sleight was the first Purdue University player to be voted All-American in football. In 1930 he was honored by his team's college league for his athletic achievements and took part in the East-West Shrine Game, a game for the best college player of the year.

Curly Lambeau

In 1930 he was hired by the Green Bay Packers . At the Packers he was played by the all-pro players LaVern Dilweg and Cal Hubbard . Under Head Coach Curly Lambeau , Sleight won his first NFL championship with the Packers in 1930 . The Packers were able to win 10 of 14 games. The following year, the Packers were able to defend their title after 12 wins in 14 games and Red Sleight won his second NFL championship. After two years of playing at Green Bay , he ended his career.

Honors

Red Sleight is a member of the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame .
