Elmi Obsieh Wais

Elmi Obsieh Wais (* 1942 in Ali Sabieh ) is a politician of the Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès (RPP) from Djibouti .

Life

After attending secondary school, Wais began his professional career at the Post and Telecommunications Authority OPT (Office de Poste et de Télécommunication) and was most recently director of the OPT. After becoming a member of the Parti du Mouvement Populaire (PMP) and the Ligue Populaire Africaine pour l'Independence (LPAI), he joined the Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès (RPP) , which emerged in 1979 and was founded by Hassan Gouled Aptidon .

In the parliamentary elections of December 19, 1997, he was elected as a candidate of the RPP for the first time as a member of the National Assembly and has since then represented the constituency of Ali Sabieh after his re-election in the elections of January 10, 2003, February 10, 2008 and February 20, 2013 .

Less than a week after his first election to parliament, Wais was appointed Minister of Interior and Decentralization (Ministre de l'Intérieur et de la Décentralization) in the cabinet of Prime Minister Barkat Gourad Hamadou on December 28, 1997 . On July 4, 2001, he took over the office of Minister for Equipment and Transport (Ministre de l'Équipement et du Transport) in the government from his successor Dileita Mohamed Dileita, and in another government reshuffle on May 22, 2005, the office of Minister for Habitats , Urban Planning and Environment and Minister for Relations with Parliament (Ministre de l'Habitat, de l'Urbanisme et de l'Environnement, Charge des relations avec le Parlement) .

He was confirmed in this ministerial office after the 2008 elections and also holds this office in the cabinet of Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed , who became Dileita's successor as prime minister on April 1, 2013.
