Else Gores

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Else Gores (* 1919 ; † April 12, 1945 in Düsseldorf ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Else Gores was a worker from Düsseldorf-Vennhausen . She helped deserted Wehrmacht soldiers .

The circumstances of her death have not been conclusively clarified. An army patrol or members of the SS found deserters hidden with her, arrested them and shot them. In other reports she was arrested and executed while helping a British pilot who was shot down by the air defense. According to other information and an eyewitness report, she and unpopular citizens from the Eller district of Düsseldorf were abducted by the SS and shot after severe abuse without any trial.

She is said to have survived the original fatal shot seriously injured and was found on April 12, 1945 near the "Waldschänke" restaurant. She was brought there to look after her. Before she could be transported to a hospital, she was dragged off again by the army patrol or the SS. Since then she has disappeared without a trace. She was 26 years old.

A memorial stone in the Eller Forest commemorates this crime.

An application by the SPD, Greens and PDS / DKP in District Representation 8 (Eller, Lierenfeld, Vennhausen, Unterbach) to hold an annual memorial ceremony for Else Gores on May 8 in the Eller Forest failed in 2005 due to an abstention from the SPD and the closed Rejection of the application by the CDU parliamentary group. The CDU justified its rejection with the memorial event that was already taking place on the day of national mourning.
