Children's gymnastics is a collective term for an area of gymnastics especially for young people. Depending on the age, different methods are offered that playfully promote motor skills and self-awareness, enable social contacts and serve to prevent sedentary lifestyle. In the member clubs of the German Gymnastics Federation , around 1.7 million children are cared for nationwide.

By implementing certain principles of action, a long-term change from taking part and playing along to self-determined action should be achieved: openness, encouraging character, voluntariness, informality, choice / possibility of decision, possibility of initiative. The social goals include perceiving the feelings and needs of others, recognizing and observing rules, the ability to integrate into groups, dealing with failure, building consideration and tolerance.

The German Sports Youth awarded in 2006 for the first time the future price - More exercise for children realize at 10 clubs, who work especially for children. Promotion of physical activity in young children is part of various institutions such as health insurance companies, gymnastics and sports associations and other organizations.

Subdivision

Parent-child gymnastics

The 1 to 3-year-old children are accompanied by their mother and / or father and experience their first movements and children's songs and rhymes in unfamiliar surroundings with people they know. Recognizing and observing other children also supports the development of social skills. The rough coordination is developed playfully. Later, movement landscapes encourage motor skills , a sense of balance and the fun of climbing. Variety and diversity stimulate curiosity and the desire to discover something new.

Toddler gymnastics

Without their parents, children between the ages of 3 and 6 are encouraged to move around and expand their range of action. Coordination is refined, social interaction experiences new areas as language development progresses. They playfully learn the basic forms of gymnastics such as somersaults and rolls. Besides balls, jump rope, tires, etc. classical gymnastic equipment like coming box , wall bars , bars , trampoline or balance beam used.

Children's gymnastics

For girls and boys from 6 years. The basic skills of everyday forms of movement are learned and can be refined through a wide range of offers. With the development of active language and understanding, learning is now faster and on multiple levels. Is practiced z. B. the perception of one's own posture and the improvement of already learned skills. It is possible to take part in gymnastics competitions to compete with others.

Children's gymnastics congress

Under the motto Moving Children, the multi-day children's gymnastics congress takes place around every two years on the campus of the University of Karlsruhe . The event offers specialist speakers and interested parties a platform for exchange and further training in workshops. "The aim of the congress is to raise awareness that exercise, nutrition, play and sport are important resources for child and youth development that need to be integrated into everyday life."

The patronage for the 2009 congress was taken over by Dr. Ursula von der Leyen (then Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth) and Ilse Aigner (then Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection).
