The Embraer EMB 111 (military name of the Brazilian Air Force: Embraer P-95 ) is a derivative of the civil regional airliner EMB 110 Bandeirante .

development and construction

The Embraer EMB 111 Bandeirulha was built as a naval, patrol and coast patrol aircraft. The first aircraft (registration number 2262) made its maiden flight on August 15, 1977 after the Brazilian Air Force's coastal command had ordered twelve machines. The first three series machines were delivered on April 11, 1978 and initially stationed at Salvador AFB . Later this type was also used by the base in Florianopolis .

It differs outwardly by a large nose with an AIL AN / APS-128 search radar and two wing end tanks. In addition, the wing leading edges are reinforced compared to the civil aircraft and have more powerful propeller turbines type Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-34 with 750 WPS each, which drive a three-blade propeller.

The EMB 111 is flown by two pilots; a navigator, an observer and a radar operator sit in the main cabin.

In addition to the Brazilian Air Force, this type is also used by the Chilean Navy, which ordered six aircraft in 1979. These also have electronic countermeasures and a complete de-icing system . A machine of this type was also delivered to the Gabon Air Force in August 1981.

Armament

The machines have four hangers for weapons under the wings. Of these, up to eight air-to-surface missiles with a diameter of 127 mm can be deployed. A pylon can be replaced by searchlights with a luminosity of 50 million candela . There are also six smoke grenades on board for marking targets. At night, flare grenades can be used to illuminate targets.
