The Embraer C-390 Millenium is a tactical transport aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer . The first flight took place on February 3, 2015.

history

The KC-390 was originally under the name C-390 technology in the commercial Embraer-190 - Jet build, but this was rejected in the course of development. The project was officially after previous design studies in 2007 at the exhibition Latin America Aero & Defense , in short: English. LAAD , presented by Embraer.

In exchange for the acceptance of aircraft, a number of states agreed to participate in the KC-390 program in the course of 2010 (see section on users ). For this purpose, work packages are awarded to the aviation industry there, for example to the Colombia Aeronautics Industry Corporation and Chiles Empresa Nacional de Aeronáutica, or Embraer sets up its own branches, such as in Évora, Portugal . The Argentine FAdeA is responsible for the spoilers , doors, nose landing gear , loading ramp door, landing flap cladding and the tail cone , while the Czech Aero Vodochody is responsible for parts of the wing leading edges, the rear fuselage, other doors and the loading ramp . Other European suppliers are Liebherr in Toulouse for the cabin pressure control and Safran Landing Systems , which supplies parts of the landing gear.

In 2013, the critical design review , the final definition of the design, was completed together with the Brazilian Air Force.

The first prototype of the KC-390 at the rollout on October 21, 2014

The rollout of the first prototype finally took place on October 21, 2014.

Embraer carried out the maiden flight on February 3, 2015, and the prototype was in the air for just under an hour and a half. The focus of this flight was mainly on checking the flight behavior in connection with the fly-by-wire system. Rheinmetall will provide the training facilities for the Brazilian armed forces. By March 2016, two prototypes had been built (serial number 3900001, registration PT-ZNF and 3900002, PT-ZNJ ), one of which took part in the Farnborough International Air Show.

construction

The KC-390 is a shoulder-wing wing plane with two turbofans with a large bypass ratio. It can be refueled in the air as well as providing fuel as a tanker .

The equipment should include a stern ramp with loading system, MedEvac configuration, modern flight control and instrumentation. The aircraft also has all-weather and day / night operational capability and can also take off from short unpaved areas.

Modern self-protection systems (radar, guided missile approach and laser warner as well as deceit launchers) are integrated.

Users

BrazilBrazil Brazil

In April 2009 it was announced that the Brazilian Air Force intended to procure 23 KC-390 aircraft. In July 2010, the quantity was increased to 28 (on May 22, 2014 the letter of intent was converted into a firm order). Commissioning is to take place at the end of 2018 [obsolete] at Ala 2 in Anápolis.

FranceFrance France

France negotiated the purchase of ten KC-390s in 2009 as a counter-deal for a possible acquisition of the Rafale for Brazil's Air Force.

ChileChile Chile

In the summer of 2010, Chile expressed its interest in participating in the program by exchanging the purchase of initially six machines. However, the country's navy is already using the Airbus C-295 .

In the summer of 2010, Colombia also expressed its interest in participating in the program in exchange for the purchase of possibly twelve machines.

PortugalPortugal Portugal

In September 2010, Portugal became the third country after Chile and Colombia to sign an agreement to participate in the program. In exchange, Portugal procures five machines.

ArgentinaArgentina Argentina

In October 2010, Argentina became the fifth country to enter into an agreement in exchange for the purchase of six machines to participate in the program through its state-owned Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA).
