Emil Bürgi

Emil Bürgi (born April 19, 1872 in Bern ; † January 30, 1947 there ) was a Swiss poet doctor and university professor .

Life

Bürgi's father was the entrepreneur and politician Friedrich Bürgi (1838–1909). Emil Bürgi received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Bern in 1898 and married Pauline Lucie Bandi in 1899. From 1900 he worked at the Medical-Chemical Institute of the same university, habilitated in pharmacology in 1904 and became associate professor for medicinal chemistry and pharmacology in 1906 . From 1908 to 1942 he was full professor and from 1913 to 1914 rector of the same university.

In Switzerland, Bürgi is considered a pioneer in pharmacology. He published many writings, especially on drug combinations (which is why he was called in as an expert in the Riedel-Guala case ). He also wrote poetry.
