Dannecker painted landscapes and cityscapes, portraits and still lifes , but the main factor in his work was church painting . Here he developed a reputation far beyond the borders of his hometown Engen: His paintings and restorations can still be admired today, especially in Hegau , the Black Forest , on the Baar and in the Lake Constance area.
