Emil Janka

Emil Janka (born January 17, 1894 in Brüx ; † January 19, 1952 in Rosenheim ) was a German lawyer and politician ( NSDAP ).

Life

Born the son of a sugar factory director, Janka studied law and political science in Prague after attending elementary school and high school in Kaaden . During his studies in 1913 he became a member of the Ghibellinia Prague fraternity . He took part in World War I from 1914 as a war volunteer , most recently in 1918 on the Eastern Front as a first lieutenant in the infantry . Wounded returned from the war, he continued his studies and, after graduating in 1920 in 1921 to Dr. iur. PhD . In 1922 he went to the municipal administration in Kaaden and Gablonz . In 1927 he became city secretary in Kaaden, and in 1933 a permanent official. After the Munich Agreement he joined the NSDAP at the end of 1938 ( membership number 6,692,565). He took part in the Second World War from 1939, most recently as captain in 1941 . From 1941 to 1945 he was mayor of Eger . In 1945 he handed the city over to the Americans without a fight and was able to prevent the city from being destroyed. He was imprisoned for 14 months. In 1948 he founded the Egerer Zeitung and the Egerer Heimatcardei , of which he was the publisher and editor. Within the Sudenten German Landsmannschaft, he was a member of the working group for the protection of Sudenten German interests . He was a co-founder of the federal Egerland municipalities and chairman of the Egerer Landtag .
