Emil Landolt

Emil Landolt (born September 23, 1895 in Zurich ; † April 18, 1995 there ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ). He was mayor of Zurich from 1949 to 1966 .

Life

Landolt studied for his school law and was employed by the cantonal tax office of Zurich 1,922th In 1923 he was an auditor at the District Court of Winterthur , from 1925 cantonal tax secretary in Zurich and eight years later secretary of the Zurich Chamber of Commerce . In 1935 he became president of the senior appeal committee of the canton of Zurich .

In 1942, at the suggestion of the FDP, he was elected to the Zurich city council, where he took over the management of the school department. In 1949 the people of Zurich elected him mayor, whereupon he was soon given the nickname “Stapi” thanks to his popularity. In 1966 he resigned.

Landolt was committed to the non-profit society on various levels, for example from 1933 as president of the non-profit society Enge and from the same year as a member of the central board of the Swiss non-profit society. In 1915 he joined the guild of carpenters , in which he was a guild clerk from 1933 to 1937 and as a guild master from 1937 to 1962. In 1965 he was also known as "Schildner", d. H. as a full member, accepted into the society of Schildner zum Schneggen .

Emil Landolt is a grandson of the forest scientist Elias Landolt and father of the geobotanist Elias Landolt of the same name .

He found his final resting place in the Manegg cemetery in Zurich .
