Adolf Lüchinger (politician)

Adolf Lüchinger (born January 24, 1894 in Zurich ; † July 4, 1949 there ; entitled to live in Zurich and Oberriet ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 1944 to 1949 he was mayor of Zurich.

Life

Lüchinger grew up in a social democratic family. From 1918 to 1923 he studied law at the University of Zurich and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD . From 1924 he worked as an adjunct for the Pro Juventute , from 1928 as district judge , from 1935 as chief judge .

As a member of the Social Democratic Party, he sat from 1927 to 1942 in the municipal council of the city of Zurich , where he presided also 1940/1941. Lüchinger in 1944 for mayor elected by Zurich and held the office until his death in 1949 stopped. Among other things, he campaigned for the expansion of social and cultural facilities and transport.

From 1936 to 1940 Lüchinger was President of the Swiss Workers' Relief Organization , from 1939 to 1944 President of the 2nd War Economics Commission, from 1945 to 1949 a member of the Swiss School Council and from 1946 to 1949 a member of the ICRC .

Lüchinger was married and the father of federal judge Adolf Lüchinger . After his death, Lüchinger was buried in a family grave in the Hönggerberg cemetery.
