Emil Otto Grundmann
Emil Otto Grundmann (* 1844 in Meißen ; † August 27, 1890 in Dresden ) was a German painter.
Life
Grundmann studied from 1861 to 1864 with Julius Hübner at the Dresden Art Academy and with Hendrik Leys at the Royal Art Academy in Antwerp and in Düsseldorf , where he had settled from 1873 to 1876. Then he emigrated to the United States and became a recognized painter there. On the recommendation of his Antwerp friend Francis Davis Millet , he got the position as the first director of the art school of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston . At this school he worked with Joseph DeCamp .
Many artists attended his courses and were influenced by his European views. They include Edmund Charles Tarbell , Edward Clark Potter , Robert Reid , Ernest Fenollosa , Frank Weston Benson and Charles Henry Turner .
