Emil Tonutti

Emil Tonutti (born February 8, 1909 in Raisting ; † September 16, 1987 in Riederau ; also called "Hoden-Emil" among students) was a German anatomist .

Life

Tonutti was the son of a building contractor. He studied medicine at the University of Munich from 1929 , passed the state examination in 1934 and received his doctorate in 1935. He then became assistant to Heinrich Friedrich von Eggeling at the University of Breslau , where he completed his habilitation in 1939 and was appointed private lecturer in anatomy in 1940. In the same year he married Emilie Seiler, with whom he had a daughter and a son. In 1941 he was made an adjunct professor and went as head of the department for histology and adjunct professor to the anatomical institute of the University of Freiburg im Üechtland . In 1946 he became head of the department for experimental medicine at the Heiligenberg Institute . In 1950 he went to the University of Giessen , where he was appointed full professor of anatomy in 1952 . In 1958 he succeeded Walther Jacobj (1890–1965) as head of the Anatomical Institute at the University of Tübingen . In 1962 he moved to the University of Bonn and in 1966 to the University of Ulm . There he was Vice-Rector from 1967 to 1970. Tonutti retired on March 31, 1974.

In 1974 Tonutti became an honorary citizen of Ulm University, in 1976 he received the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg and in 1977 an honorary doctorate from Ulm University.
