Emile Colling

Emile (Émile) Colling (born April 12, 1899 in Clervaux ; † September 16, 1981 in Bofferdingen, Lorentzweiler ) was a Luxembourg politician of the Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei (CSV).

Life

Emile Colling studied medicine at the University of Strasbourg , the University of Nancy , the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the University of Cologne, and after completing his studies and obtaining a doctorate in medicine , he settled in Esch an der Alzette in 1925 as a doctor . In 1945 he became director of the Public Health Office and director of the Munneref thermal baths and a member of the Assemblée consultative . As a member of the municipal council of Esch an der Alzette, he was also involved in local politics and was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Chambre des Députés ) for the Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei (CSV) .

On June 29, 1954, Colling was appointed to a ministerial office for the first time in the Bech-Bodson government and served until March 29, 1958 as Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Public Health (Ministre de l'Agriculture et de la Santé publique) . Between March 29, 1958 and March 2, 1959, he also held the posts of Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Public Health in the Peace Government . In the Werner-Schaus I government that followed , he served as Minister of Labor and Social Security (Ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale) and continued as Minister of Public Health (Ministre de la Santé publique) . He was then in the Werner-Cravatte government between July 15, 1964 and January 3, 1967 Minister for Agriculture and Viticulture (Ministre de l'Agriculture et de la Viticulture) and Minister for Families, Population and Social Solidarity (Ministre de la Famille, de la Population et de la Solidarité sociale) .

After he left the government, Emile Colling was ambassador to the Holy See from 1968 to 1974. The rue Dr. Emile Colling in Esch an der Alzette, where the Stade Émile Mayrisch of the CS Fola Esch football club is located. His son François Colling was also a member of the Chamber between 1979 and 1996 and a member of the European Court of Auditors from 1996 to 2006 .
