Emiliano Fabbricatore

Emiliano Fabbricatore OSBI (born August 12, 1938 in Santa Sofia d'Epiro , Province of Cosenza , Italy ; † January 6, 2019 ) was an Italian religious , Superior General of the Italian Congregation of Basilian Monks and Archimandrite of the Italian-Byzantine Territorial Abbey of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata ( San Nilo Abbey).

Life

Born and raised in Santa Sofia d'Epiro in Calabria, he entered a monastery on December 1, 1953. On September 22, 1956 he joined the Abbey in Grottaferrata and completed his novitiate from November 10, 1958 . Holy Profession followed on November 11, 1961 and the ordination of deacons on November 20, 1965 . At the age of twenty-nine, on August 13, 1967, Fabbricatore was ordained a priest in Grottaferrata .

At the age of sixty-one, on January 31, 2000, he was appointed Abbot of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata, also known as Archimandrite of the Abbey of San Nilo. On November 4, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation. At the same time, Francis also accepted the resignation from the office of Superior General of the Italian Congregation for Basilian.

Abbot Emiliano Fabbricatore was active in the “Commission for Dialogue and Ecumenism” of the Italian Bishops' Conference , as well as consultative in the Eastern Church Congregation and in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity .
