Emilie Hörnlund

Emilie Hörnlund (* 1982 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish violist , chamber musician and concertmaster at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.

Life

Emilie Hörnlund received her first musical training at the Music Conservatory in Falun . After graduating from high school, she went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music in London to study music . She studied with Jack Glickman, David Takeno Andriy Viytovych and baroque viola with Annette Isserlis, among others. In 2005 she received a scholarship from the Anglo-Swedish Society. In 2006 she was the first violist to take part in the Ljunggrenska Soloist Competition, where she reached the final round.

After completing her training, Emilie Hörnlund played with many orchestras in England, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment , the English Chamber Orchestra , the London Chamber Orchestra , the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra .

With the Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova , the Spanish violinist Pablo Hernán Benedí and the French cellist Claire Thirion, Emilie Hörnlund founded the Chiaroscuro Quartet in 2005 , which is dedicated to the historical performance of classical and early romantic music. The quartet, which has received several international awards, has given concerts in numerous concert halls and festivals in Europe and Asia, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, the Theater du Jeu de Paume in Aix-en-Provence, and Cologne Philharmonie , in the Mozarteum Salzburg as well as at the Cambridge and Cheltenham Festival. In September 2011 the quartet's debut album was released with music by Mozart and Schubert .

Until 2010 Emilie Hörnlund held the position of deputy solo viola at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2010 she has been concertmaster at the Kungliga Hovkapellet at the Royal Swedish Opera. In Sweden, too, she regularly works with various orchestras, including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She also gives regular solo concerts at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.

In addition to the classical repertoire, Emilie Hörnlund was also involved in several pop music productions. In the 2006 Artic Monkeys song Baby I'm Yours , she recorded the viola. The violist was also involved in some productions by the British singer Jonathan Jeremiah .
