Emma von Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (born May 20, 1802 in Schaumburg , † August 1, 1858 in Pyrmont ) was a princess of Anhalt-Bernburg- Schaumburg-Hoym and from 1845 to 1852 regent of the Principality of Waldeck and Pyrmont . (Not to be confused with her granddaughter Emma zu Waldeck and Pyrmont ).

Life

Emma was one of the four daughters of Prince Victor II of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (1767–1812) from his marriage to Amalie (1776–1841), daughter of Prince Karl Christian von Nassau-Weilburg . She grew up with her sisters in Hoym, Anhalt , and was carefully trained. The great-uncle of the princesses, Prince Friedrich , had renounced the County of Holzappel with Schaumburg in 1811 in favor of his great-nieces , but in 1828 a decision was made to the disadvantage of the heiresses.

She married Prince Georg II of Waldeck and Pyrmont (1789–1845) in Schaumburg Castle on June 26, 1823 .

After his death, Emma reigned in the principality for her son until 1852 in accordance with her husband's will. One of their first official acts was the reformation of the Waldeck contingent of the federal army in 1845 by Prussian officers. The events of the revolution of 1848/49 also fell under Emma's reign, as a result of which a new state parliament was convened in Waldeck (see Lit. Rauch). Emma's government is described as the most important for Waldeck and involved a complete reorganization and renewal of the state organism. From 1853 she had her widow's residence in the New Palace , just a few hundred meters from the Residenzschloss , which she had redesigned in the classicism style.

The Emmafall in Gastein Valley is named after the princess . She is the grandmother of Queen Emma of the Netherlands . A double thaler minted as a club coin during her reign in 1847 bears the name “ Big Emma ” after her .
