Ends ( Norwegian for the end ; english ends Point ), also known as Kleinschmidt Summit , is a 1,515 m high rocky outcrop in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises on the southwest side of the Belgen valley in the Kirwanveggen of Maudheimvidda .
It was discovered and named for the first time during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . This name, which is not internationally recognized today, is named after Ernst Kleinschmidt (* 1877), then director of the Deutsche Seewarte . Norwegian cartographers mapped the formation based on surveys and aerial photographs of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) and gave it its new name.
