Enfold Darkness is an American black and death metal band from Nashville , Tennessee , that was formed in 2005.

history

The band was formed in mid-2005. In the years that followed, the line-up changed several times before solidifying in 2008. While Enfold Darkness was opening act for The Faceless at a concert in their hometown, their singer Michael Keene became aware of them. Then the group reached a contract with Sumerian Records , which in November 2009 released the debut album Our Cursed Rapture . The album was partially recorded with Jamie King as producer. The release was followed by several national tours and appearances with The Faceless, Dying Fetus , Goatwhore and Burning the Masses .

Bassist Todd Honeycutt committed suicide just a few months after releasing their second studio album, Adversary Omnipotent, in July 2017 . He was found hanging in the garage of band guitarist Elijah Whitehead.

style

Stephan Rajchl from metal1.info described the music on Our Cursed Rapture as a mixture of black and technically demanding as well as melodic death metal. The opening song In the Galleries of the Utmost Evil contains melodic and heavy riffs , tremolo passages, double bass and blast beats . The song becomes quieter as it progresses, whereby a solo is also used. In the other songs, the means mentioned are used in varying degrees. The Benefits of Your Demise show influences from the occult . The vocals are a cross between Dani Filth ( Cradle of Filth ) and Trevor Strnad ( The Black Dahlia Murder ) and use high screams and deep growls , the latter less often. In addition, clear speech passages are sometimes used, which would also remind of Dani Filth. The texts themselves are dark, occult and well-worded and free from clichés. Kyle from metalreviews.com also summarized the album as a mixture of Black, Melodic and Technical Death Metal or Cradle of Filth and The Black Dahlia Murder. The riffs are often technically demanding and occasionally songs can be completely assigned to Technical Death Metal in the style of Necrophagist and The Faceless. The tremolo riffs, on the other hand, are more in the melodic death metal style.
