Engelbert Sander

Engelbert Sander (born January 30, 1929 in Schweskau ; † April 17, 2004 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school, Sander completed an administration apprenticeship from 1943 to 1946 and joined IG Metall in 1951 . He continued his education from 1953 to 1955 with an evening course at the Business and Administration Academy in Hanover and in 1955/56 with a day course at the Social Academy in Dortmund . He then worked as a full-time union official at IG Metall.

Political party

Sander co-founded the Radical Democratic Labor Party (RDAP) in the British occupation zone in 1946 and was elected vice chairman of the party. After the RDAP was dissolved in the 1950s, he joined the SPD in 1956. Later he was deputy chairman of the SPD district association Lippstadt .

MP

Sander was from 1961 to 1975 council member of the city of Lippstadt, from 1969 to 1975 member of the district council of the Lippstadt district and 1975 to 1981 member of the district council of Soest . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1976 and from May 26, 1978, when he replaced the late MP Bertram Blank , until 1987. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia .
