features

Engelhardia spicata is a tree that can reach heights of up to 20 m with paired, rarely unpaired pinnate leaves , 15 to 35 cm long . The petiole is 2.5 to 11.5 cm long, glabrous or hairy. The 4 to 14 leaflets have entire margins, sessile or stalked, hairy, broadly truncated at the base and short pointed at the tip. On the underside are inconspicuous glandular scales.

Flowering time is November to April.

The fruits are small, spherical to egg-shaped nuts 3 to 6 mm in size. The middle wing is 2.5 to 3.5 cm long, the side 1.5 to 2 cm. The fruit is ripe from January to August (rarely until November).

Engelhardia spicata occurs in China , Pakistan , India , Nepal , Bhutan , Myanmar , Laos , Thailand , Vietnam , Indonesia , Malaysia and the Philippines . It grows in forests on mountain slopes or in valleys from sea level to 2100 m above sea level.
