The Enggano Thrush ( Geokichla leucolaema ) is a little researched songbird species from the thrush family (Turdidae). It is on the island of Enggano off the southwest coast of Sumatra endemic . For a while it was placed in the genus of the earth thrush ( Zoothera ) and until 2004 was considered a subspecies of the rust cap thrush ( Geokichla interpres ).

features

The Enggano thrush reaches a body length of 16 to 18.5 cm. The forehead, skull and upper coat are rust-ocher. The rest of the top and the rump is olive ocher. The flight feathers are medium brown. The middle elytra are slate brown with white tips. The reins and face are black. The throat and chin are white. The upper chest is black. The underbust and the flanks are characterized by a black and white scale pattern. The belly and the underside of the tail are white. The rear flanks are dark reddish brown. The beak is black. The legs are yellow or light brownish-flesh-colored. The young birds are similar to the adult birds, but their heads and backs are more chestnut-colored with light shaft stripes. The wing spots are rust-yellow-brown. The underside is rust-yellow-brown with rust-colored and blackish spots that form a partial chest band. The middle of the abdomen is whitish.

Vocalizations

The singing is reminiscent of the begging call of a young bird. It is faster and more diverse than that of the rust cap throttle.

Habitat and way of life

The Enggano Thrush lives in the rainforest. It is a sedentary bird and revier faithful. No more is known about their way of life.

The IUCN lists the Enggano thrush on the early warning list ( near threatened ).
