The Asian thrush ( Zoothera ) are a genus of medium-sized, mostly insectivorous or omnivorous songbirds from the family of thrushes (Turdidae). The genus is mainly found in Asia and the Australasian region. Most species are ground breeders and look for food on the ground. The African forms, varied thrush and the Aztecs throttle the new world that traditionally are associated with this class are not closer to the Asian species of the genus Zoothera related and form their own genres such Ixoreus (varied thrush) and Ridgwayia (Aztecs throttle). Numerous former African Zoothera species as well as the slate thrush ( Geokichla sibirica ) are currently in the genus Geokichla .

Systematics

Around 19 species belong to this genus, one of which - the Bonin's earth thrush ( Zoothera terrestris ) - is considered extinct.
