The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1952 at the suggestion of the American geologist Arthur B. Ford . It is named after Anthony W. England, geophysicist of the United States Geological Survey , who worked on the Dufek massif between 1976 and 1977 and from 1978 to 1979.
