English coronation music

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The English Coronation Music is a series of different pieces of music by different composers, which were performed for the coronation service of the kings and queens of the United Kingdom .

The best known are the Coronation Anthems by Georg Friedrich Handel from 1727. Traditionally, a section is still used today: Zadok the Priest . The coronation celebrations resemble, in addition to the liturgy, a concert with a mixture of old and new pieces that were commissioned for the respective coronation.
