Enno Heyken (clergyman)

Enno Heyken (born February 17, 1906 in Borkum ; † October 19, 1987 in Verden ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and regional historian.

Life

Heyken's father was the first Lutheran pastor on Borkum. He graduated from high school in Cuxhaven in 1926 and then studied Protestant theology at the universities of Tübingen and Göttingen and in 1928/29 at Yale University . In 1931 he passed the first theological exam in Göttingen. His first vicariate position took him to Verden Cathedral, to which he later always remained connected. He was briefly employed at the Stephansstift in Hanover . After the second theological exam, he became a pastor at the Stephanikirche in Goslar in 1934 . In the Second World War , Heyken was initially in France as an anti-aircraft soldier. He later became a division pastor on the Eastern Front.

From 1949 to 1971 Enno Heyken was pastor at the Peter-Paul-Kirche in Schneverdingen . He spent his retirement in Verden, where he devoted himself increasingly to church , art and regional history . His work earned him scientific recognition beyond the borders of his homeland. In addition to working closely with the Rotenburger Heimatbund, he was a member of the Society for Church History in Lower Saxony.
