The yearbook is aimed at an academic audience as well as readers interested in regional history. The yearbook brings together numerous contributions from various authors. The main part consists of scientific essays on the history of the district, as well as on the history of the districts and communities Achim , Dörverden , Kirchlinteln , Langwedel , Ottersberg , Oyten , Thedinghausen and Verden . In addition, there are mixed contributions on historical topics, texts on the topics of nature and the environment, and in some cases also stories and poems. As a former home calendar, today's yearbook also always contains a Verden calendar . Individual issues are dedicated to key topics.

The breadth of regional-historical topics relate time and again to the history of changing historical states in Verdens. These include the Hochstift and Duchy of Verden , which existed as the Diocese of Verden until 1648 , as well as the Duchy of Bremen and the Principality of Verden , which was under Swedish rule from 1648 , under Danish rule from 1712 and under Electorate Hanover from 1715 . With the Napoleonic Wars , Verden became part of the French satellite state of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1866 Verden belonged to the Kingdom of Hanover . After the Austro-Prussian War and the annexations of 1866 , Verden was part of the Prussian province of Hanover . From 1873 the House of Hohenzollern and thus the German Emperor also carried the title of Prince of Verden . With the dissolution of Prussia after the Second World War , Verden became part of the federal state of Lower Saxony . Because it is located in the former British occupation zone , Verden was a garrison town of the British Army on the Rhine until 1993 . The special spatial and historical location of Verdens results in a multitude of topics for the yearbook, e.g. B. on church and diocese history or on the time of Sweden . The home calendar and the yearbook contributed to the scientific processing of the Nazi past in the Verden district.
