Enos Bradsher Slaughter (born April 27, 1916 in Roxboro , North Carolina , † August 12, 2002 in Durham , North Carolina) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . His nickname was Country .
biography
Enos Slaughter was a very good batsman on the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees teams . In ten of his nineteen seasons he had a batting average of over 30%. He won the World Series twice with the Cardinals (1942 against the Yankees and 1946 against the Boston Red Sox ), with the Yankees he took part in three World Series, including two (1956 against the Brooklyn Dodgers and 1958 against the Milwaukee Braves ).
As a southern gamer and tobacco farmer, Slaughter attempted a boycott of the Dodgers in 1947 to protest the Brooklyn Dodgers' signing of Jackie Robinson . However, the President of the National League Ford Frick threatened to immediately ban any player who participates. So this measure came to nothing. However, it was not until 1958 that the Cardinals signed Curt Flood, an Afro-American player.
Slaughter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1985 .
