Enrico Berti

Enrico Berti (born November 3, 1935 in Valeggio sul Mincio , † January 5, 2022 in Padua ) was an Italian philosopher and historian of philosophy .

Life

Berti received the Laurea in Philosophy in 1957 at the University of Padua with Marino Gentile. From 1961 to 1964 he was an assistant at the University of Padua. In 1965 he received a professorship in the history of ancient philosophy at the University of Perugia , and in 1969 the professorship in the history of philosophy there. In 1971 he moved to the University of Padua as professor of the history of philosophy. Visiting professorships have taken him to the universities of Geneva , Brussels , Santa Fé ( Argentina ) and the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano .

From 1983 to 1986 he was chairman of the Società filosofica italiana . He has received various awards for his work. In 2013 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens , and in 2014 he was made an honorary member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Aristotle Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . He was a member of the following institutions:

Berti worked mainly on Aristotle , on his metaphysics , ethics and politics . At the theoretical level he presented a conception of metaphysics as an awareness of the problems of the world of experience .
