The ensemble includes the cityscape formative, originating in the 13th century partly ruins of Vohburg on the elevated castle hill with the Baroque Church of St. Peter and the 1721 built Pfleger Castle .

The Vohburg was first mentioned by name around 895 as a fortified court complex and the center of power for the aristocrat "Pernardus de Vohaburch". Belonging to the official property of the Bavarian Count Palatine since the 10th century, the Vohburg was passed on to the Diepoldinger, Margraves of Cham and Nabburg, as heir of the Rapotons in 1099. Their Wittelsbach heirs expanded the castle complex and Duke Ludwig the Strict had it expanded in 1255 as the administrative center of his entire sovereign territory.

With the second destruction of the castle and the loss of the center function including customs post in 1316 in the brotherly dispute, the decline of the Vohburg began, but from 1431 to 1435 it was once again used as the residence for Duke Albrecht III. and Agnes Bernauer served. During the Thirty Years War in 1641 the castle was finally destroyed by the Swedes.

Its current appearance goes back to the years 1820/23. What's more, built in 1721, two-storey castle with nurses Mansardwalmdach and the mighty, 1,959 reconstructed according to historical designs keep .
