Enwaldus Klene , also Ewald Klene (* in Greifswald ; † 1501 ibid) was a German university teacher . He taught at the Artistic Faculty of the University of Greifswald .

Life

Enwaldus Klene (in literature the form of the name Ewald Klene is also used) first studied at the University of Rostock , then from 1473 at the University of Greifswald .

In Greifswald he became a master's degree in 1477 , later professor at the artist faculty . At times he was also the dean of the artist faculty. He taught the philosophy of Plato and Aristotle, as well as the principles of classical literature and eloquence.

In a dispute between the supporters and opponents of Greifswald's mayor Nikolaus Schmiterlow , which has ruled the University of Greifswald since 1480 , Klene joined Schmiterlow's opponents. The dispute ended in 1484 in favor of Schmiterlow. Several of his opponents then left Greifswald, but Klene remained in his office.

The two lawyers Petrus von Ravenna and Vincentius von Ravenna , appointed by the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw X from Padua to the University of Greifswald in 1498 , became close friends of Klene. Vincentius of Ravenna praised him in his poems.

Klene died in 1501 of the plague that was rampant in Greifswald at the time . Vincentius of Ravenna wrote his epitaph. Some of his books, including handwritten poems by Vincentius of Ravenna, came to the Eldena Monastery , from there to the Petrikirche in Wolgast in 1535 and to the Greifswald University Library in 1829 .
