Eosinophilic facial furunculosis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The eosinophils Gesichtsfurunkulose (Syn. Eosinophils Gesichtsfollikulitis ) is an acute episodes of skin disease in a domestic dog . It occurs mainly in young dogs of long-nosed dog breeds. Usually only the bridge of the nose is affected, sometimes other head areas or rarely the limbs are also affected. Here pustules or papules associated with severe itching appear. The cause is unknown, but it is believed that insect bites or spider bites lead to a hypersensitivity reaction.

In the differential diagnosis, pyoderma and dermatophytosis in particular can be excluded. Numerous eosinophilic granulocytes are found in a cell examination of scraping or contact specimens . If the areas themselves are already traumatized, neutrophils and macrophages, as well as cocci and rods , can also appear. In Feinnadelbioptaten a shows pyogranulomatous inflammation with numerous fibroblasts that occur as a result of repair operations.

Glucocorticoids are used for treatment , possibly in combination with an antihistamine . Usually a treatment over several days is sufficient, in rare cases the active substance has to be administered over weeks. An antibiotic may be indicated for secondary infections .
