The Protestant Church in Vilsendorf.

The Epiphany Church is one of the three parish churches in the unified Evangelical - Lutheran Reconciliation Parish of Jöllenbeck in the Bielefeld district and district of Jöllenbeck (union of the parishes of Jöllenbeck, Theesen and Vilsendorf on October 1, 2016). It is named after Epiphany (apparition of the Lord). The modern sacred building , consecrated in 1963, is widely visible through its church tower in the shape of a cross and can be assigned to the Brutalist architectural style .

history

The foundation stone was laid on June 17, 1962. On July 1, 1962, the parish of Vilsendorf had become independent, until then the area belonged to the parish of the Schildesche collegiate church . Some of the believers from the north of Vilsendorf also attended church services in the neighboring community of Jöllenbeck . On July 30, 1963, the church bells were ceremoniously brought to Vilsendorf. On September 8, 1963, President Ernst Wilm consecrated the sacred building.

Since the political community of Vilsendorf, which at that time belonged to the Jöllenbeck office , was planning the erection of a war memorial in the same place to commemorate the fallen Vilsendorfer from the two world wars, the war memorial was integrated into the church tower.

architecture

In addition to the free-standing church tower and the nave, the construction project also included the conversion of the former village school into the parish hall and the construction of the rectory. The plans came from the Bielefeld architect Günther Klussmann. The church is partly inspired by Le Corbusier's pilgrimage church Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp (France): the building is polygonally asymmetrical, exposed concrete was used for the tower and the nave , the massive church portal is enamelled on the inside and outside and artistically designed. The church portal was designed and built by the artist Fritz Reuter from Erlangen († 1981). The portal consists of a single-leaf door whose axis of rotation runs vertically in the door. When opening, the larger part swings outwards and the smaller part inwards, creating two ways into and out of the church. From the access to the altar, the floor is made of exposed aggregate concrete .

The church tower is separate from the hall. The floor plan is cross-shaped and consists of two sheets of exposed concrete. Another sheet of exposed concrete forms the floor of the bell room, so that the church tower offers the sight of a cross from a distance. Inside the tower there is a 103-step spiral staircase that leads to the bell room. At the foot of the church tower, the names and life dates of the soldiers from Vilsendorf who died in the two world wars can be found as a negative relief in the exposed concrete.

Bells

The church has four bronze bells that were cast in 1963 by the Rincker Bell and Art Foundry :
