Disocactus ackermannii is a species of the genus Disocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus breeder Georg Ackermann , who introduced the species in 1824.

description

Disocactus ackermannii grows overhanging at the base and is up to 1 meter long without extension shoots. The base of the shoots is round and 10 to 18 centimeters long; flattened in the upper part and 10 to 70 centimeters long and 5 to 7 centimeters wide with partly wavy edges that are dark green to brownish. The scarlet, funnel-shaped flowers with a green throat are 11 to 14 centimeters long. The fruits are egg-shaped, partly elongated, green to reddish brown and 4 centimeters long and 2 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Disocactus ackermannii is widespread in the Mexican states of Oaxaca , Chiapas and Veracruz and occurs at altitudes between 1800 and 2450 meters.

It was first described as Epiphyllum ackermannii in 1829 by Adrian Hardy Haworth . Ralf Bauer presented the species to Disocactus in 2003 .

Berger (1920), Nopalxochia conzattiana T. MacDoug . (1947), Pseudonopalxochia conzattiana (T. MacDougall) Backeb. (1959) (nom inval. ICBN - Article 43.1), Nopalxochia ackermannii var. The following subspecies and forms are distinguished:

  • Disocactus ackermannii subsp. ackermannii :
    The nominate form has flattened shoots 35 to 75 centimeters long. The flowers are 10 to 15 centimeters in diameter. The perianth segments are 7 to 10 centimeters long.
  • Disocactus ackermannii subsp. conzattianus (T.MacDoug.) Ralf Bauer :
    The first description as Nopalxochia conzattianum was made in 1947 by T. MacDougall. Ralf Bauer presented the species to Disocactus in 2003 . The flattened shoots are 10 to 50 centimeters long. The flowers are 4.5 to 6 inches in diameter. The perianth segments are 4 to 6 inches long.
  • Disocactus ackermannii f. candidus (Alexander) Barthlott :
    The first description as Epiphyllum ackermannii f. candidum was made in 1947 by Edward Johnston Alexander . Wilhelm Barthlott presented the white-flowering form to Disocactus in 1991 . The shape is seen as cultural selection. (nom. invalid ICBN -Article 43.1)

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
