Erasmus Schmidt (medical doctor)

Erasmus Schmidt (also: Schmid, Schmied, Schmidius; * August 1598 in Hildesheim ; † April 14, 1649 in Hanover ) was a German physician and university professor.

Life

The son of the businessman Aßmus Schmidt and his wife Anna, the daughter of the councilor in Hildesheim Paul Busch and his wife Ilse Wildenfeuer, had received their first training at the school in his hometown and received lessons from private teachers. In 1618 he attended the council school in Goslar , began studying at the University of Erfurt in 1620 , moved to the University of Jena in 1621 and moved to the University of Helmstedt in 1623 , where he devoted himself to studying medicine.

On July 30, 1634, he acquired the academic degree of licentiate in medicine there, settled as a general practitioner in Hildesheim, then became a city physician in Alsfeld and then worked again in Hildesheim. In 1638 he obtained his doctorate in medicine at the University of Helmstedt , went to Hanover as a doctor in 1640 and was appointed professor of medicine at the University of Rinteln in 1645 . After a severe cough attacked him there in 1648 and his health deteriorated increasingly, he went to Hanover for a cure , where he soon died. His body was transferred to Rinteln and buried in the parish church on the Holy Cross.

From his marriage to Ursula, the daughter of the Hanoverian doctor Dr. Gebhard Hurlebusch, have two daughters.
