Passage in the Erdstall Ratgöbluckn in Perg

The Erdstall Ratgöbluckn in Perg is the largest safely accessible Erdstall in the Mühlviertel .

It is located in the municipality of Perg on the edge of the Machland in the Perg district in Upper Austria and is a protected cultural asset.

description

The Erdstall is located in the Stephaniehain, which was laid out as a walkway by the Beautification Association in 1881 and named after Archduke Rudolf's wife , Princess Stephanie of Belgium . The outer half is a subterranean, heavily branched system of corridors and chambers, carved in sandstone and the inner half in Flins (weathered granite ), which was laid out at an unknown point in time for purposes that cannot be precisely determined and which has changed over the centuries several chambers in the front part was expanded. In 1905, Michael Fries, the then municipality chairman of Perg, arranged for the earth stable to be protected from collapse by means of supports and walls in the corridors.

In 1944, on behalf of District Administrator Gustav Brachmann, the system was examined, measured and recorded in a plan by pupils of the 4th grade of the Perg secondary school as part of a school project under the direction of Hauptschoolirektor Karl Stummer:

According to this, the mostly sufficiently high and easily accessible network of corridors has a total length of 106 meters and consists of 22 corridor sections or tubes that connect 8 chambers or wider rooms with 2 seating and 19 light niches. The corridors rise steeply so that there is a difference in level of 5.4 meters between the entrance and the highest point. This thorough investigation did not reveal any evidence that the Erdstall, as mentioned in some older writings, had connecting passages to a castle belonging to the Lords of Perg on the Dollberg, to the Perg market or to Mitterberg Castle , several kilometers from Perg .

Entrance area of the Erdstall Ratgöbluckn in Perg

In 1945, at the instigation of the municipal office, the Erdstall was closed by a wall. In 1973 the Perg Heimat- und Museumsverein decided to make the Erdstall accessible again. In 1975 a new entrance was uncovered, secured with granite stone walls and closed with a wrought iron gate. The Erdstall has been accessible to the general public again since 1976. It was not until 2002 that electrical lighting was installed in the earth stables, as the torches previously used for tours had a negative effect on the state of preservation. In the same year, the Erdstall formed the backdrop for a three-part film about the Thirty Years' War made on behalf of ZDF. In 2011 the Mining theater group shot a short film that was shown in a dungeon at the exhibition accompanying the state exhibition in 2012 and has since been part of a permanent exhibition.

The open-air facility, part of the outdoor facilities of the local history museum, Stadtmuseum Perg, was placed under monument protection in 2009 in the ensemble with the Scherer mill quarry and the stone breaker house ( list entry ). It is listed as a sight on the Danube Cycle Path and the Donausteig .
