The garage facility Erftstraße in Dusseldorf-Unterbilk is under monument protection standing monument . It was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Düsseldorf on May 18, 2009 (monument no. A 1584). The facility, which was built between 1953 and 1956, is "significant evidence" of the increase in individual traffic in large cities, which resulted in the construction of "supply structures for motor vehicle traffic".

location

Located in the middle of a block of flats bordered by Erftstrasse to the north, Neckarstrasse to the west, Gladbacher Strasse to the south and Wupperstrasse to the east, the actual property, which includes the garage, comprises approx. 2170 m². Access is via Erftstrasse, where there is a wide passage in the middle of the five- storey , eight- axis residential and commercial building on Erftstrasse 7-11.

history

According to Heimeshoff , the quality of the system, which was finally implemented after several discarded floor plan design variants, based on a design from 1953 to 1956, speaks for the hand of an "outstanding architect personality". Her name, however, has not been passed down. As evidenced by the building application, the Dräger construction company acted as the client, and Paul Plückebaum drew for them. Paul Plückebaum, house and property management, operates in the front building at Erftstrasse 7-11 (2014).

Apart from an additional roof construction that was added in 1959, the entire system was one of the few of its kind to have survived the period since its creation and has therefore now become a vehicle traffic system from the 1950s even after its maintenance, right down to details such as the staircase system and the Formation of the balcony railing, a rarity.

description

The garage is accessed via a passage in the residential and commercial building Erftstrasse 7-11 ( location ). Behind this, a plot of land opens up in the form of a convex square , which extends to the south-east with a mean depth of 55 and an average width of approx. 40 meters. In the middle there is a two-storey workshop and office wing with a flat roof , at the north-western corner of which, facing the driver, a third storey is placed like a tower and on a round floor plan. This component, which also includes the entrance and the stairwell , gives the ensemble a special accentuation. The two-storey parking deck was built around this building on the property boundary, the upper floor of which is designed as an oval circuit and accessed via ramps. Below is the basement, which is divided into individual boxes. The actual parking area is closed at the top with a round roof, which also connects to the central workshop and office area.
