The Am Battenberg nature reserve with a size of 0.3 hectares is located north of Rösenbeck in the city of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The Battenberg is popularly known as Tittenberg. Another name is Rösenbecker Stein. In the area development plan, the NSG area as well as the entire surrounding area is intended as an area for excavations, here rock extraction. To the east of the NSG there are already two large quarries from the companies Mühlenbein and Rheinkalk .

Area description

The NSG consists of two small limestone rocks and the approximately 25 wide strip of grassland that lies between the two rocks. Endangered plant species occur in the area. The NSG is surrounded by intensively used agricultural land.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the two rocks with their species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
