The nature reserve Egge with a size of 131.8  hectares is located south of Rösenbeck in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG is part of the FFH area beech forests and rubble dumps on the "White Woman" (DE 4518-303).

Area description

The NSG is a south-facing slope. In the NSG there is grassland and forest. Grassland also includes grasslands . The forest consists of red beech forest and individual red spruce stands . Parts of a former Rheinkalk quarry belong to the NSG, while part of the quarry is still used by Rheinkalk. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect forests and grassland with their inventory of species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
