Setup date 1958

The Drübel nature reserve with a size of 9.27 hectares is located in Brilon . The Drübel was designated as a landscape protection area as early as 1938 with the Ammertenbühl area. In 1958 it was designated as a nature reserve (NSG). In 2008 the area was again designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau .

Area description

The NSG is located in the southeast of Brilon. Settlement areas almost completely enclose the NSG. Only the eastern tip of the NSG borders on grassland areas. Cliffs up to 8 m high emerge on the ridge. The NSG is covered by forest. These are mainly red beech and ash forests . Oak and maple can be found on the smaller edge areas . Edge areas of the NSG are impaired by garden waste from adjacent house gardens.

Protection purpose

Protection of the species-rich forests in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

Prohibitions

In addition to the normal prohibitions in nature reserves, the NSG Drübel, like the other 31 limestone peaks, has additional prohibitions. It is forbidden to fertilize, roll and drag the limestone peaks. No more than two livestock units per hectare may graze at the same time. Furthermore, mowing is only permitted from July 1st of each year.
