Hemmeker Bruch nature reserve
The Hemmeker Bruch nature reserve with a size of 16.6 hectares is located north of Madfeld in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . In the north-west, west and south-west the nature reserve Fauler Bruch / Hemmeker Bruch borders with further grassland areas.
Area description
The NSG is a grassland area. A sieve rises in the Hemmeker Bruch, which then flows through the Fauler Bruch / Hemmeker Bruch nature reserve and disappears into a swallow hole in the Schwelge / Wolfsknapp nature reserve . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. It breed in NSG u. a. Red backed killer , meadow pipit and reed bunting .
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
Protective measures
The area of the nature reserve was purchased by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The NSG is largely grazed by the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis (VNV) with Red Höhenvieh cattle.
