The nature reserve Goldbachtal having a size of 56.65 ha is southeast of Scharfenberg in the city of Brilon and includes the Goldbach (Möhne) and secondary streams with the pastures of the source to the entrance to Möhnetal . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau .

Area description

The NSG is about the Goldbachtal and tributaries. In addition to the streams, the floodplain is part of the NSG. In the floodplain there are swamp forests, alluvial forest relics and alder forests that accompany the stream. Larger areas are also planted with red spruce . There are also wet and wet grasslands in the floodplain. There is also lean grassland on the slopes.

Protection purpose

In the NSG the floodplain of the Goldbach and its tributaries are to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
